My golden puppy has so much energy! Is this normal? |
Answer: Although I haven't met your golden puppy personally, I can remember asking the very same question to my own vet. Her response? "It would be abnormal if she didn't!" When I started to raise the puppies, there were times when I thought, "What have I gotten myself into?!" I found the most important thing for my puppies was they needed to be socialized and with me as often as possible. They are going to do some pretty nutty things as babies, but they learn from being with you to settle down and what's acceptable. Things that I've found to help as well are keeping my puppies active by playing with them outside or going for a good walk. Taking them places with me as well just to discover new things. The truth is, they are sporting dogs who love to work. If they are bored, you can expect to see them dart into a room and run around like mad. This is a sure sign that they need a good leader to teach them how to blend in with the family and keep them working. They are very intelligent and want to learn, so it's probably a great time to start training them and keeping them with busy with lots of things to learn. |
